Frequently Asked Questions About Our Jewelry Appraisal Services

At Jarvis Gems and Jewelry Appraisals, we believe in providing an experience. While most appraisers require you to leave your jewelry for analysis, we want you to be a part of the process. Put your suspicions to rest – we perform the appraisal in front of you so your jewelry never leaves your sight. One item takes approximately thirty minutes with an appraiser where you are encouraged to be as involved as you like. You leave with your jewelry and we will email you your appraisal. If you don’t need jewelry formally documented but are looking for details and general values on items, we offer a variety of services to answer all your questions.

Our verbal consultation services start at $50. Estimates on detailed items will be quoted at the time they are presented. If you have a large collection or an estate of many items, please call our office so we can work with you on a fair price based on your items and needs at 972.851.0009 or email us.

For a detailed report for Insurance or Estate purposes the fee is $135 for the first item and $85 for each additional item. This price may increase if your items contain multiple diamonds or demand extra research time.

We do provide additional services and strive to tailor our services to your needs and budget.

The appraisal provides a detailed description of the item including metal purity, gram weight, finish, setting, trademark (if legible), condition of item, shapes of all diamonds and gemstones with measurements, estimated weights and color/clarity, the determined value and a GIA Graduate Gemologist’s signature with seal. If you would like to see an example of one of our appraisals, you can view it: sample appraisal report.

As a service to all our clients, we are happy to provide an electronic copy of your appraisal to you.

We typically take appointments from 9:00-6:00 Monday – Thursday and 9:00-3:00 on Friday.

Yes, we have two Graduate Gemologists on staff and our appraisals are accepted by all insurance companies.

An independent jewelry appraiser does not buy or sell jewelry allowing him/her to act as an impartial third party. The appraiser should not act as a buyer or a seller and cannot have a relationship with the pieces being appraised (or the parties involved). This assures you that the appraiser is being fair and impartial; the pieces being appraised are not being artificially inflated or devalued.

We can do your appraisal in our North Dallas office or at a location of your choice. We have a portable gemological laboratory that makes it possible to travel to your home, office, bank vault or store. We do not typically recommend performing appraisals at your location unless you have several items or simply do not feel comfortable bringing your items as we must charge an extra fee to travel.

Our office is located on the 7th floor of the 12-story building located at the southeast corner of Preston Road and LBJ (Southeast of The Galleria Mall in North Dallas). The mailing address is 12900 Preston Road, Suite 730, Dallas, Texas 75230. Map

Most insurance companies recommend that you have your jewelry appraisal reports updated every two or three years. Please keep in mind you will need to have items with large gemstones — especially diamonds — updated more often than an item with no gemstones at all. Jewelry Appraisal Services
